Building VRML worlds form geographic data:
I am currently working for ISTAR. The aim of the software I am developing is to generate VRML worlds representing any given area (spanning several kilometers) in real time. The purpose is to let the user surf the data set in a 3D environment through the internet.
To make this possible, only part of the data set is ever loaded, to make use of the bandwidth available (you can also have a look at what is done in the GeoVRML work group).

Nice:
In the south of France (and in color!). The level of detail increases as you get closer to the ground. I will make it available in VRML format as soon as I find out that I have the legal right to do so...
Lisbon:
Here the buildings are represented too, I extracted their geometry from the vectorial data used to calculate cellular phone coverage in urban areas.
Same view, closer up, (try clicking the thumbnail to see the detail).
